The humble onion gets star treatment during this traditional Catalan feast celebrating food, fire and community.

What is a Calçotada? Oh, just one of our favorite things ever. It is a Spanish springtime tradition in Catalonia, where entire villages make a day of feasting on a special varietal of spring onion called calçots, grilling them over the flames, then dragging them through romesco or salbitxata sauce, and eating them by hand with great gusto.

Calçots are just beginning to come into their short season, so the time is now! We’re thrilled to be teaming up with our friends at Arborbrook Vineyards and Westward Whiskey for a rousing afternoon of fire, food and revelry. Let’s start our own PNW calçotada tradition, shall we?

We’ll gather around the fire overlooking the vines at Arborbrook Vineyards in the heart of the Chehalem Mountains, getting the party started with a welcome cocktail featuring Westward Whiskey and a spread of tapas and snacks, as you watch fat calçots and asparagus roasting over the open flames.

After feasting on these verdant spring vegetables, charred until smoky and sweet, we’ll move inside to Arborbrook’s tasting room in a beautifully restored historic barn to enjoy big steamy pans of clam, chorizo and white bean stew, a gorgeous spring salad, crusty bread, and a little something sweet.

Tickets include a welcome cocktail from Westward Whiskey, an complimentary splash of wine from Arborbrook, and a casual, convivial food and fire experience from Tournant. Additional Arborbrook wines will be available for purchase by the glass.
